A Personal Statement
The personal statement should reflect the applicant’s own thoughts and experiences. Applicants should refrain from relying on AI-generated content.
The essay topic is the applicant’s choice. Suggested topics include:
What are the unique advantages of attending an HBCU?
How did you determine your field of study?
Who is your biggest role model and why?
What experiences shaped your educational aspirations?
In what ways have you demonstrated leadership in school
How will you use your education to make a positive impact on your community?
Scholarship Application Timeline
The scholarship application period typically opens each spring. The timeline below provides general guidance for students and families preparing for the next cycle.

Application Opens
Application materials will be made available on the Foundation website.
April
Application Deadline
Completed applications, including all required materials, are typically due in April.
May / June
Interviews, Recipient Notification
& Recognition
Selected applicants must participate in a short in-person interview. Selected recipients are generally notified in May and are required to attend the Foundation’s annual scholarship awards ceremony in June. Additional details regarding the date, time, and location will be provided to successful candidates.
